Last Night...I Had...A Pleasant Nightmare...duhduhduhduntduhduhduhduh

The whole family went on a walk last night.

That's not what this post is about.

Sometime in the middle of the night, there was some thunder and lightening.
I was sleeping like this (except in my chair in the bedroom).   And there was a VERY LOUD CLATTER (it was not the thunder).

Jasper had busted into the closet and was trying to hide in there among the shoes and shoe racks and really, there was no room for a big scaredy cat dog.

Knowing they would never get rest with a terrified dog in the room, Being ever so kind and compassionate, Master and Mrs. Master offered for Jasper to sleep with them.

Do you know he slept right up by their heads with his head on Mrs. Master's pillow and her arm around him?

That's a level of snuggling to which I will never succumb.

Now I have to train a dog to not be afraid of silly things.

It's a hard knock life,

Nora B. Webster

  1. Think THUNDER SHIRT!! It made me not afraid of Jennifer the Jeep... and not NEARLY as afraid of Thunder Storms. I still hate those though.

  2. Aww, poor Jasper. It's hard learning what you don't need to be afraid of... although just maybe he did it on purpose to get some serious snuggling? Hmmmm.

+1 on the Thunder Shirt suggestion, though! LBR won a whole bunch of those in a contest, so we've been giving them to lots of our foster dogs. They help with storms, but they've also helped dogs who are scared of lots of things and even calmed down some of our more aggressive dogs!

  3. Nora,
Maybe Jasper over reacted just a tad just to get a spot in bed!! I do understand his fear... I'm not a fan of t-storms either. I normally head for the darkest corner I can found.

  4. About the Thunder Shirt.... I wore it on 5 trips in Jennifer. The first one was just about 8 miles long. Next was about 20 and the others were around 40 miles total. THEN mom tried takin me without it.. she still had to carry me to Jennifer. After a few trips like THAT one day they were getting ready to go.. and POOF.. I just ran down the steps all by myself and was WAGGIN.
Now for the times when it storms... If Mom gets it on me about an hour BEFORE it starts... I am pretty much OK... I don't run to the downstairs den and hide .. butt if she doesn't get it on Early... I still Hide for the Worst of the storm. BUTT it has to be a really LOUD one fur me to do that NOW. I am WAY WAY better than I used to be. I USED to shake and shiver for two hours AFTER the storm went away.
So fur ME Thunder Shirt DID work. I don't think they do fur ALL dogs though.
The KEY is get it on Well BEFORE whatever it is that is scary fur you comes along.
One of our furends used to be REALLY afraid when peeps came to his house... so they got a T-Shirt and asked their furends to CALL before they came to visit.. and they would put the T-shirt on and be ready. THAT worked fur that dawg too. So fur sure... Put it on EARLY.

  5. Aww! Poor guy! Our sister Stormy was storm-phobic (yes, we understand the irony, what with her name and all) and it was just no fun for her! Our vets (KSU) got some Thunder Shirts to help calm traumatized pups and kit-cats when they come in. They tried one on me, just to get practice putting one on a "big" (ha!) dog - I have to say, I rather liked it. Especially because everyone told me how cool I looked. Ha roo roo roo! You might want to give one a try for Jasper!
Mom used Rescue Remedy for Stormy. It doesn't work for everyone, but it helped her. So did having the lights on in the room. As with the Thunder Shirt, like Frankie said, you have to start before the storm actually rolls in.
    Good luck!

  6. Whew, for a minute there, we were worried you were talking about some of us scaring Jasper. We too have heard good things about the Thunder shirt. Jasper could use one soon with the storms we get around here. Poor guy.

    1. That was very nice of the masters. Mommy and Daddy kick us off the bed when we try to sneak on the bed at night. Though I guess they might let us up if we were sick or scared.

Oooh and we just love your blog and are so happy we found it. We also nominated you for an award so stop over to our blog to pick it up.
